Older Persons Grant Application Guide
The Older Persons Grant supports eligible older people who meet the current SASSA requirements. Age, residency, means-test and other rules must be confirmed with SASSA when you apply.
Check the current requirements
Use the official SASSA website or service portal to confirm the qualifying age, citizenship or residency rules, means-test limits, exclusions and current grant amount. Do not rely on an old social-media poster because amounts and thresholds may change.
Prepare your documents
SASSA may request official identification, marital information where applicable, proof concerning income and assets, banking or payment information, and other documents relevant to the means test. Ask SASSA about accepted alternatives if a required document is unavailable.
How to apply
- Confirm the latest rules with SASSA.
- Gather the documents required for your circumstances.
- Apply through an official SASSA office or authorised service.
- Complete declarations honestly and check contact details.
- Keep a receipt, reference or other proof of application.
- Follow up through verified SASSA channels.
If someone assists you
If illness or mobility makes applying difficult, ask SASSA what authorised assistance or representative process is available. Do not give your bank card, PIN or account password to an informal helper.
Reviews and changes
SASSA may review grants and request updated information. Respond through official channels. Report relevant changes to personal, income, household, contact or payment information as required.
If declined
Read the official reason and use the reconsideration or appeal route stated in the decision. Observe the deadline and keep copies of supporting documents.
